A friend of mine who is a professional cook invited me to taste her cake recipe. I have been a cake enthusiast since childhood and remember the excitement in my mother’s face. Once I told her that I had learned how to make a classic chocolate cake with my friends and cousins when I was young. I also remember the sadness on my mother’s face when we got old enough to travel, and she never saw me enjoying my homemade creations with my mother’s family.
The Birthday Cake Book had a page about making a cake. It mentioned many delicious recipes, including a simple Chocolate Cake Recipe from Grandma. After that moment, the sweet memories of my childhood were still vivid in my mind and my desire to start my own cake business started.
Learnings: Classic Chocolate Cake
I have been cooking cakes for over 10 years. I have learned that while the chocolate cake is not a new concept. Its presentation and flavor can be tweaked and made more enticing. What is important is that the cake tastes great. Therefore, the key to a successful cake business is to use as many recipes from other sources as possible.
After years of experience baking specialty cakes for family and friends, I decided to try a more accessible recipe. I don’t know if it was her way of saying. “I can help you learn more about this particular type of cake” or she just wanted to show me something that I might not have tried before.
It turned out to be a complete disaster because there were so many different kinds of chocolate cakes that took me an hour to decide which one to eat. The results were disappointing but they did teach me something about combining two very similar ingredients. A very different flavor, and about creating a new experience.
Classic Chocolate Cake Book
I got the idea for my chocolate cake from the recipe in the Classic Chocolate Cake Book. The recipe includes some of the most famous ingredients that you might want to combine together. Cocoa powder, white sugar, eggs, baking soda, butter, egg whites, and cream. In my search for a great chocolate cake recipe, I found three variations of the Classic Chocolate Cake, each with their own unique flavor.
These recipes called for fresh milk and eggs combined with salt and baking soda and some cocoa powder. They were different but all used the same basic ingredients and did not appear to use too many ingredients.
The first two cakes were cake recipes for the gluten-free community. The second recipe I tried was a homemade low-fat, low-sugar cake. It was quite good, but I did not feel it was enough to fully enjoy all the ingredients.
Homemade Cake: Classic Chocolate Cake
One of the best chocolate cake recipes that I ever tasted was the homemade, fruit-filled cake that calling for two eggs, half a cup of sour cream, two tablespoons of powdered sugar, and four tablespoons of butter. To make it even better, the batter was mixed into a one-gallon pudding mix and poured into five 4-inch square pans. These cakes looked like they were going to fall from the pans when I lifted them out of the dishwasher. I tried the batter straight from the box but liked the pudding mix better.
If I were starting my own cake business today, I would use any of these recipes. I could try different flavors and recipes, but it would probably be easier to find someone else’s recipe and incorporate that. However, I do enjoy using recipes from people who are already established in the baking business.
Using recipes from people who have recipes that have been tried and tested would be a big step forward for me in making healthy choices that my customers will appreciate. People are looking for ways to change up the classic recipes they see every day. They are looking for “something new” and they know it when they see it.
What I learned from the chocolate cake recipe was that the ingredient list for a traditional chocolate cake is not too extensive. Hence, I am no longer making the classic chocolate cake that my mother used to bake. It is time to come up with a new and exciting dessert that will please the chocolate lover in all of us.
